We were until
recently mainly set up for machining low volumes of castings. This has given us a very
adaptable and skilled workforce, able to quickly comprehend the difficulties in new
machining jobs and to overcome them. However the acquisition of CNC enabled machines now
offer extra capacity to those customers looking for higher volumes.
Whilst machining tolerances are dependant on the process being undertaken, accuracies down to the 10 micron level are readily accessible.
We machine castings for our own range of presses and test weights, but by far the majority of work undertaken is sub-contract for OEMs, machining both castings produced in grey iron in our foundry section and in other metals as supplied by our customers.
Typical components machined on a regular basis include parts for pumps, compressors and industrial engines and general spares items. Preparation work, such as machining top and bottoms of press tool castings prior to dispatch to the tool maker for final machining is often requested, while one-off restoration work for example refurbishing a traditional finger sign-post is rarer but has also been done.
